Advice from a Gas Safe registered engineer

Carbon monoxide and gas safety at home

A badly burning gas appliance can release carbon monoxide (CO), which you cannot see or smell. Knowing the signs and having appliances checked saves lives.

Protect your home

Fit an audible carbon monoxide alarm, test it regularly, and have every gas appliance serviced once a year by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Landlords must also have a gas safety record every year.

If the alarm sounds

Open the windows, leave the property, turn the appliance off and call the National Gas Emergency number. Do not go back in until it has been checked.
