Advice from a Gas Safe registered engineer

How often should a boiler be serviced?

A gas boiler should be serviced once a year by a Gas Safe registered engineer. It keeps the boiler safe and efficient, and avoids breakdowns when you need heat most.

Why every year?

Over a year, soot, scale and dirt build up and parts wear. A service finds problems early, while they are small and cheaper to fix, and checks that the flue is safe.

What a service covers

Warranty

Most manufacturers require an annual service by a registered engineer to keep the warranty valid, so a missed service can cost you if something fails.

Landlords

Landlords must also have a gas safety check every 12 months and give tenants a copy of the record (CP12). The check and the service can be done on the same visit.
